At Springfield Advisory we value the benefits of Reflection as a key part of what we do professionally or personally.
Reflection can be found in many different forms whether it’s a Reflective Diary where you journal daily or just those moments where you take a pause to think back on something you have done well or not so well.
As we have previously mentioned, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing is a core support offering at Springfield Advisory and reflection can be used alongside each of these.
Whether you’re being active on your daily walk, connecting with friends and family, taking notice of your surroundings, learning something new or giving something back to your community.

Recently I have taken some time to reflect myself and have used very different forms of reflection which I will share below.
Business Reflection
At Springfield Advisory we have just reached the 6-month mark of full-time trading and we thought this would be the perfect time to take a step back and reflect on the start of our business journey. We decided that this needed a formal method of reflection and a day of forecasting and strategic planning was in store. Although all very new to us this allowed us to have a clear vision of the last 6 months of being a new business and also the next exciting 12 months ahead.
This, has in turn made us realise how vital the steps are to providing clarity and a focussed plan moving forward.
Also, how proud we are of our achievements only 6 months into our journey.
Learnings
1 – Forecasting is a key reflective tool – without it you will have no direction in your approach.
2 – Strategic Planning gives you the time to reflect – If you have a strong, structured plan it allows you the space to reflect.
Personal Reflection
Just as in my professional life I have learned to reflect in my personal life as well. The last 12 months have been a bit of a whirlwind shall we say. From being at the forefront of support in extremely difficult times at Tata Steel, to facing my own redundancy worries to forming Springfield Advisory with a drive and determination not only to succeed but to make a difference in my own way. April came and i got married to my rock which was for us as a family a huge moment.
Busy times indeed!!!!!!
I could feel myself getting tired and needing to make some changes. So, I took a day or two out, which especially as a new business owner can be extremely difficult but the benefits were huge. My reflection method for this was just to stop, breathe, reflect and learn. I needed to start doing things for myself again!! Things I enjoyed!! That diary doesn’t need to be constantly full.
I started playing golf, running (slowly) , Coffee club with my mates and Cold-water dipping. What a difference to my outlook and energy. This may not be your thing but the important thing is to reflect.
Learnings
- Stop
- Breathe
- Reflect
- Learn
